wow it's been a while since i posted here, and i don't have time to do anything substantial now, either. i am going to be doing some pruning of le friend's list- if i mortally offend anyone feel free to tell me what a bitch i am in one of my public entries or shoot me an email and i will beg your forgiveness. i'm trying to keep up with folks but the volume is greater than my current time allowance. yes, i know i can create different lists, if i have time, which i don't. yes, i suck.
update: made this post public for ease of kvetching. i also realised that many of you have more than one lj profile and i don't know which ones are current- oy.

This is a very rare Public post from Yours Truly...
A couple years back I was introduced to a friendly and knowledgible radio DJ who, I was told, plays "my kind of music". I was thrilled to actually have something worth listening to on the radio, to have a place to call in where the DJ actually KNEW the music I liked (most DJs wouldn't have even heard of the bands), had the music in-house, AND could expose me to new music that appeals to my general tastes.
Yup, I'm talking about the One, the Only, El Uno, TheOneBob.
Aside from being a personal friend, I appreciate the work Bob puts into getting new bands heard in a media that is grossly inflexible if you're not part of the mainstream Top-40 list, and the last few years I've put my money where my mouth is to support the show during the annual pledge drive.
Unfortunately, this year I am unable to make my annual donation, or even make a pledge that I am sure that I can follow up on in a timely manner, so I'm beating the drum to spread the word.

9:30 pm - i'm a sister-in-law!

my sister and mike got married! while my folks are visiting- they surprised them by going by the courthouse and getting married! i'm so happy for them! mike was a part of the family from day one and they've been together for a couple years now and have moved- twice?- in the process. they'll have a reception later on when we can get both families together (mike's family is in texas) and they want to honeymoon in irleand (where mike's family is from). i'm just so incredibly happy for her- for them both! my family just got bigger!

opened the front door of my building for the UPS man and received two packages- woo! one is the leather lace to complete my current craft project, and the other was two huge boxes of cat litter! i do product surveys at times and i'm testing out a cat litter... pretty cool, and i get a month's worth of free cat litter in the bargain! ha!
ran errands on my way home including some stackable storage boxes with lockable lids and a carry handle- nice! one now corrals craft supplies and the other the tools that don't fit in my current tool box (a retired lunchbox). also cleared off my desk, paid immediate bills, and put away odd clothes that had piled up on my futon. now a hot bath and some dinner... also need to call the building super again- the heat is taking *way* too long to come up- it's chilly in here!

they ripped out all the trees around the ampitheatre for the new theatre they're building... pfaugh- i'd rather have the trees.
i'm desperately behind in lj- i think this weekend is going to be phone call weekend... way too much going on with friends right now...

i was fairly disgusted when it started snowing today at work, but i have to say that after walking home at night with snow lightly falling through amber streetlights and sparkling on the ground... the kind of snow my mom once called "fairy kisses"... yup, i caved. i forgave winter... at least for this snowfall anyway. ;}
managed to cut the hell out of the back of my fingers on my right hand at work today- not even sure when it happened but boy does it sting!
got a handful of foreign coins from the lunch counter on my way home- w00! india and portugal in this lot, as well as some older canadian pennies for my collection... i'm such a kid... :}
i think tonight's a veggie burger night... and enterprise too! might go out for sushi friday night with friends and pick up my calendar- it's done! i can't wait to see it! megan put a whole lot of work into this and i know it will be stellar... i saw some photo-album gifts she was making for friends with her photos and was really impressed... i have some really talented friends!

well, i actually left work on time today after starting work early and cramming a new graphics design program into my skull... i won't say that i'm an expert at it, but by the end of the day i had some decent work to show for it and a nice headache. i have a meeting on friday to go over it with the university webmaster and want to make sure i have something substantial to show her.
anyway- got home in good time picking up pizza on the way. started my laundry right away and was done by 7 30- nice! unfortunately, it was a big load and i knew it, and quite a few things came out damp... i now have my bed sheets hanging over doors and if they're not dry by the time i go to bed i'll get to sleep on clammy sheets... argh. yes- definitely buying a second set of sheets this weekend...
and speaking of the shopping trip- i'm only allowed to buy new jeans because i lost six pounds... (told myself if i could i'd get pants that *fit* and aren't highwaters on me- argh) six more is my goal weight and i'll have to choose another good reward once i get there...

okay- so no wonder my feet were hurting... i have blisters! i suppose they're from saturday? maybe i was sleepwalking?
today flew by... i looked at the clock twice the whole day- once to be late to lunch and once to miss my usual bus and just barely catch the next one. it was a good day, but busy.
did grocery shopping on my way home (must feed my feline masters!) and managed to stave off the pizza craving for one more day until tomorrow, when i will reward myself with pizza for doing my laundry... it's sheets-and-towels week in the mayfield household and things tend to get ugly (because i only have one set of each).
speaking of- how is it that my black jeans get shorter but my flannel jammies get longer? someone's warping my spatial regulator again dammit!
anyway, i have determined that this saturday is *shudder* Mall day. i usually only hit the mall twice a year, but i need a second set of sheets, and i need black jeans. let's see what other kipple i manage to acquire in the process- hee!
and now to cook some yummy dinner... whee!

9:17 am - weekend frivolity

well, friday after work i headed home, cleaned kitty litter (ooh, it was stinky!) and took a bath because my hair felt disgusting and i refused to be seen in public unless i was clean. packed my overnight bag and some crafting supplies and headed to the bus stop. got there at 6 30, just in time for the 5 45 bus... everyone else on the bus was 45 mintues late but i was 15 minutes early- neato! made good time into the city, hopped a train, got a little truned around in astoria but found ami's just fine. i brough pita, hummus, and green grapes, and a six of shmirnoff ice. people trickled in (at least i wasn't late!) and The Great Movie Debate began. we ended up watching existenz (which i had seen long ago but only vaguely remembered), suburbia (which i've heard loads about but never seen), and rejected, which was just too hilariously disturbing for words... "my spoon is too big!" ooh- that would make such an awesome lj icon! *plots*
everyone filtered out about 1 just as megan came in, so she, ami and i sat around and chatted for an hour or so, and then ami and i kept chatting until 3. crashed out on the folda-bed only to wake up at 9 for no good reason unable to fall back to sleep. eventually we got up, dressed, caffeinated, collected tam, and took a cab to katy's because of extreme rain. there was a good crew, lots of yummy atkins-food (maybe i could do this diet! not sure i want to, but some of the food is fairly tasty). ended up making a whip-core after all- now i have to order the lacing... very cool! megan also gave me some extra copies of her pictures that i want to frame on heavy black card-stock... i need to hit a paper goods store soon and pick up some odds and ends first tho'.
hitched a ride back to jersey with Z and the gothling and was glad to catch up with her- i really need to be more social or make more phonecalls, but i always feel like such a spaz on the phone... got home about quarter to eleven and fell into my oh-so-comfy bed. woke up at seven for no good reason. argh. katy had made kick-ass chili the night before i had some despite the ground meat and it only marginally disagreed with me- yay! and my fingers are still numb from sewing leather for a couple hours... heh.

i had no access to lj for over 24 hours, so i'll be playing catchup for a bit. nothing stellar has happened on my end... i had wanted to make a post about icicles as tall as i am and as thick around as my upper arm, and some musing on the meanings of "cute" as used in general conversation, but lj ate that attempt and it wasn't all that enthralling anyway.
having leftover frango milanesa for lunch with rice and black beans... sooooo goooood!
had a funny dream last night... i was going on a cruise (i think there's been to many disney vacation cruise commericals lately or something...) anyway, i ran into a friend and we explored the ship wrecking havoc and having a blast... it was actually pretty cool- we got all silly over a kid's play area that i wish i could actually design and build! anyway, it was a very fun dream- and then i was catapulted into wakefullness by a massive charley horse- argh! i fell back to sleep but the dream was long gone, replaced by a "goth" dream (any dream involoving goths- yes, i dream about goths- scary, no?) that involved me leaving a grocery bag in a shop with a carton of oj and loaf of bread in it, turning around and discovering that the shop is gone even though all the other stores are still there and no one has a clue what i'm talking about.
actually, that rather sounds like my life at times... heh.

my friend megan is making a calendar using pictures from the ny/nj outings group... some months are model shots of listmembers, and some are group shots from different outings we've done. i posed in some really cool cemetery shots megan took and i'm really looking forward to getting a copy!
but you know what's even cooler...?! (and michael will appreciate this...) i get to send her a letter!
yeah, i know, but i love snail-mail. i was a camp counselor for many years and kept in touch with many of my campers... i loved sending them stickers and confetti and silly little things and getting things back in the mail. heh- i keep in touch with one or two still, both of whom are in college now... eek!
so while i was just sending her a note, it's on my parchment stationery (heh- it's supposed to be for printing resumes, but it's perfect for scorching around the edges and drawing pirate maps- lol!), and i even stamped the envelope on the back with my leaf inkstamp for a seal.
i am a goof. but i'm a happy goof.
heh- and in other silliness, i'm off my M Doughty kick (for now) and going through one of my periodic "wow- i forgot how much i liked radiohead" phases... oricular short-attention-span theatre... ;}

first day back at work after nearly a week away... luckily, everyone is a couple days behind at this point so it really wasn't too bad and i did try to keep up with things through email...
nonetheless, my head hurty. i go home now.
ah, and had an un-happy thought... i'm supposed to have people over friday night for bad movies, but i think only driving folks will actually make it out and there's no parking on my street right now due to four-foot snowdrifts. then again, the pathmark lot should be all clear by then, it's a short block, and it's well-lighted so that could work. if too many people back out though i'll probably call it off...
oh- and i had a terrible cup of tea today. just when i come close to forgetting that there is bad tea in the world, someone reminds me. i am getting much too spoiled...

been getting lots of jobs done today- some things that should have been done long ago. realised i didn't get nearly the work done the last few days that i should have (of course, part of that time i was coughing up a lung and had a fever, but even so...) today is making up for it productivity-wise however... i need a few more good days like this to feel caught up.

i did my shopping trek early... we're only supposed to get one or two more inches of snow, but i wanted to get out and find something yummy for lunch. ran into marcus on the way to the shopping centre. navigating the dug out maze-paths in the snow was fun (although i defintiely over-dressed- it's fairly mild out). snapped one or two pics, but there are only so many pictures of piles of snow that you can take. the folks who never dig out their sidewalk lived up to expectations, so that was the only place i had to walk in the street. grabbed some groceries and was hit on by quite a number of men who seem to think a woman in camoflage is too damn sexy, even if you can't tell anything else about her under the black hoodie, leather boots, and biker jacket. eww. *rolls eyes* now for a nice soothing soak in the tub...

it's still snowing. just got up... discovered i had fallen asleep with my fingerless gloves on, then had taken them off at some point in my sleep... woke up with them under me. i'm going to have some hot cocoa and a slice of banana bread i made last ngiht (neener-neener!). sgtill think i'm going to wander over to the store today- just for fun... it's nowhere near as windy and the snow is flaling almost straight down...

tomorrow will be off as well... i am deifinitely going out tomorrow! w00t! big, lazy snowflakes falling... not only are there cars completely buried, but one of the dumpsters is invisible behind a plow-in... off to update emergency pages!
